Pakistan test-fired its first indigenously developed Fa'az air-to-air missile on Tuesday, the military's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations, said in a statement relayed by Radio Pakistan.

The ISPR said the flight test marks another milestone in the advancement of national aerospace and defense capabilities.

The missile is equipped with a terminal guidance system and can engage enemy aerial targets at longer ranges, the ISPR said.

The military said the Fa'az will significantly enhance the operational flexibility of the Pakistan Air Force and strengthen the country's overall defense posture.

The ISPR said the test showed the technical maturity, innovation and self-reliance achieved by Pakistan's defense industry.

Senior officers of the armed forces, along with scientists and engineers who played a central role in developing the weapon, witnessed the launch, the statement said.

The President, the prime minister, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Defense Forces and the service chiefs congratulated the scientists and engineers on the achievement, the military said.

The Pakistan Air Force is the country's air arm, and air-to-air missiles are used by fighter aircraft to strike targets in the air.

Pakistan has long sought to develop more of its defense equipment at home, and the military regularly reports on indigenous weapons programs through the ISPR.
