Palestinians, joined by government officials and community leaders, harvested olives in the Umm al-Kubaysh area east of Tammun, south of Tubas, as part of the national olive-harvesting campaign.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Tubas Governorate, and the Commission Against the Wall and Settlements, the Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) said in a statement.

Omar Bisharat, Director of the Ministry of Agriculture in Tubas, said the campaign aimed to help citizens access their threatened lands and harvest their olives. He noted that citizens were finally able to reach their lands after persistent efforts by authorities.

The olive harvest comes after colonists cut down around 250 fruit-bearing olive trees in the same area earlier that morning. Local residents welcomed the initiative, saying it allowed them to access their lands for the first time in months.

The olive tree is a significant symbol of Palestinian heritage and economy. Olive harvesting is an important annual event for many Palestinian families, who rely on the crop as a source of income.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has led to increased tensions and restrictions on Palestinian access to their lands, particularly in areas near settlements and the separation barrier. The olive harvest season often highlights these challenges.
