Russian diplomat calls BRICS a true voice for global majority
The diplomat said BRICS members reject hegemony and neocolonialism, and that the grouping is not aimed against any country.
BRICS has become a true voice for the global majority, a Russian Foreign Ministry official said in an interview published Thursday, Russia's state news agency TASS reported.
Kirill Logvinov, director of the International Organizations Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, said the grouping's members reject hegemony, neocolonialism and what he called a rules-based order.
He said the partnership is not directed against anyone and, unlike the European Union, does not reflect bloc thinking.
Logvinov said BRICS is not formally an organization, but Russia values its cooperation with BRICS partners within the UN General Assembly, where the countries closely align on most international issues.
He said those countries share a commitment to a fairer multipolar world order based on international law, with the United Nations playing a central coordinating role.
Logvinov said regional organizations are meant to complement UN efforts on issues including the peaceful settlement of disputes, trust between states and faster development.
He added that such cooperation is growing stronger each year amid emerging multipolarity, and that BRICS occupies a special place within this framework.
BRICS began in 2009 as a grouping of Brazil, Russia, India and China, and South Africa joined in 2010.
The group has since expanded, and Moscow has promoted it as part of its push for a multipolar world.
