South African captain Temba Bavuma scored a century against Australia in the second Test at St George's Park, Cricket Australia said. Bavuma's 100 came off 226 balls, his slowest Test ton, in challenging conditions against a relentless Australian bowling attack.
He had been 91 not out for several overs before reaching his fifth Test ton. The innings was marked by Bavuma's determination and decision-making, with a high leave percentage of 30 percent midway through the first session on day three. Assistant coach Ashwell Prince praised Bavuma's decision-making and ability to leave the ball.
Bavuma had outlined before the match that he wanted his batters to be more 'ruthless' in their execution. The second Test is being played from October 18-22 at St George's Park, Gqeberha. The South Africa squad for the second Test includes Temba Bavuma, Marques Ackerman, David Bedingham, and Kagiso Rabada, among others. The Australia Test squad for the match includes Pat Cummins, Scott Boland, and Mitchell Starc, among others.
The series is part of the ICC World Test Championship. South Africa and Australia have a long-standing rivalry in Test cricket, with the two teams having played numerous matches against each other over the years. The championship is a premier international competition for Test cricket, featuring the top nine Test-playing nations.
The match is being broadcast exclusively in Australia on Kayo and Fox Cricket. The third Test is scheduled to take place from October 27-31 at Newlands, Cape Town.
