Two Palestinians die of wounds from earlier Israeli strikes on Gaza

One of the dead was a medical student at the Islamic University of Gaza, and the official death toll from the war has reached 74,620.

Two Palestinians died on Friday from wounds sustained in separate Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

The deaths were reported on the basis of medical sources, which WAFA cited in its story.

A medical source at Al-Shifa Hospital said Sara Abu Jiyab, a medical student at the Islamic University, died from injuries sustained in an Israeli airstrike that hit the university campus about a week earlier.

Abu Jiyab was a resident of the Al-Shati refugee camp, west of Gaza City, the medical source said.

Nabil Hamad also died from wounds sustained in an Israeli attack on the Al-Balakhiyah area of Al-Shati camp several days earlier, medical sources said.

Health authorities said the overall death toll from Israel's war on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023, has risen to 74,620.

The same authorities said 175,925 people have been injured in the conflict.

The war began after Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, and has since caused widespread destruction and civilian casualties across the Gaza Strip.

Deaths from wounds often occur days or weeks after an attack, which means the official toll can keep rising even when new strikes are not reported.
