The University of Miami School of Architecture has been selected to represent the United States at the 20th Venice Architecture Biennale, the U.S. State Department said on Friday in a statement.

The U.S. Pavilion exhibition, called Earth Craft, is being organized by Lead Curator Germane Barnes, an associate professor and director of the Master of Architecture Graduate Program at the University of Miami School of Architecture who also works as principal of Studio Barnes.

The exhibition will explore how American architecture is shaped by the land and by the people who build on it.

It will trace earthen materials, including brick, rammed earth, adobe and concrete masonry, from the ground up to the finished building.

The display will also honor the brickmakers, masons and builders who used American soil to construct homes, schools and public buildings across the United States.

The department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs supports and manages official U.S. participation in the Venice Arts and Architecture Biennales, which the department said are meant to showcase the excellence of American art and culture on the world stage.

The Venice Architecture Biennale is one of the best-known international architecture exhibitions, held in Venice, Italy, where countries present their own national pavilions alongside a central curated show.

Participation in the event gives host countries a platform to present their architectural work and ideas to designers, critics and visitors from around the world.

Readers seeking more information about the selection can contact the department at eca-press@state.gov, according to the release.
