Tractor trolley hits motorcycle in Lahore, killing man and woman
The driver of the tractor trolley has been detained, and police have ordered a detailed inquiry into the crash.
A tractor trolley crashed into a motorcycle in Lahore on Saturday after the tractor's front tyre burst, killing the man and woman riding the bike, Lahore Traffic Police said, Dunya News reported, citing the city's traffic police.
The tractor lost control after the tyre burst and the trolley struck the motorcycle, leaving both riders seriously injured, the report said.
Police and rescue teams reached the scene quickly, and the injured were taken to hospital with the help of the rescue workers.
Both riders died at Jinnah Hospital, the report said, and their identities could not be established at the time.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi took notice of the incident, the traffic police said.
He also asked the SSP Sadar to submit a detailed inquiry report, the traffic police said.
A traffic police spokesperson said the driver of the tractor trolley, Muhammad Naveed, had been detained and handed over to the Nawab Town police station.
Jinnah Hospital is one of the major public hospitals in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, and often receives patients from road accidents in the city.
Road crashes involving heavy vehicles and slow farm machinery are a recurring concern on busy urban roads in Pakistan, where traffic police routinely conduct inquiries into fatal incidents.
