The first two groups will focus on transportation and electricity transmission, with officials saying they are a step toward the route's next phases.

The United States, Armenia and Azerbaijan launched trilateral technical planning groups on Friday to advance the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity, the U.S. State Department said in a statement.

The groups bring together policymakers and technical experts from the three countries to work together on long-term stability, economic vitality, regional connectivity and commercial prosperity, the statement said.

The parties agreed to set up the first two planning groups, which will focus on transportation and electricity transmission.

The statement described the groups as a crucial step toward resolving complex technical issues and moving to later phases of the project, including connections with other regional infrastructure.

The sides reaffirmed their commitment to putting all modes of the route into operation as quickly as possible, the statement said.

The launch builds on the Peace Summit Declaration of Aug. 8, 2025, which the statement said was brokered by President Trump.

The Trump Route is a multimodal transit route, and the 2025 declaration was meant to turn a framework for peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan into concrete projects.

Armenia and Azerbaijan fought several wars over the Nagorno-Karabakh region before the 2025 declaration, and the transit route is among the steps both governments have pursued since then.
