Turkish minister stresses ties with Azerbaijan on Victory Day
Yumakli said Turkish firms and institutions are taking part in rebuilding Azerbaijani territories and called for lasting regional peace.
Turkish institutions and companies are helping rebuild Azerbaijani territories freed from occupation, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli said on Tuesday, Turkey's state-run news agency Anadolu Agency reported.
Yumakli spoke at a reception marking Azerbaijan's Nov. 8 Victory Day, hosted by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Ankara at the Gazi Officers' Guesthouse.
He said the relationship between Türkiye and Azerbaijan rests on the principle of "One nation, two states," and that Türkiye shares in Azerbaijan's victory.
Yumakli credited Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's leadership with achieving the victory in 44 days, paid tribute to those who died in the war and thanked veterans who helped return Azerbaijani territories to the country.
He said the two countries had raised their relations to the level of an alliance through the Shusha Declaration, which he described as an important step beyond a joint declaration of political will.
Türkiye and Azerbaijan will keep working to take their cooperation to higher levels, he added.
Yumakli also said the military victory in Karabakh had opened a historic chance for lasting peace, stability and security across the region.
He said regional cooperation mechanisms proposed by the two countries' presidents were designed to serve shared prosperity for all countries and peoples in the region.
The Karabakh conflict flared in 2020, when Azerbaijan fought Armenian forces over the territory, and a Russian-brokered ceasefire ended the fighting in November of that year.
Yumakli concluded by congratulating Azerbaijan on its Victory Day.
