US President Donald Trump fires press secretary Katie Zachrya

US President Donald Trump has fired White House Press Secretary Katie Zachrya just a week after appointing her, US media reported Friday.

The president had announced Zachrya's appointment on his social media platform Truth Social on October 10. She started work on Monday but was let go after her first press briefing, which lasted only 14 minutes.

During the briefing, Zachrya struggled to answer questions and appeared nervous. She also incorrectly announced the dismissal of the US ambassador to Greece.

Trump cited the media's harsh treatment of Zachrya as the reason for her dismissal. He claimed that the media had been 'very, very bad' to her.

The president also expressed concern for Zachrya's well-being, saying he did not want her to continue in a role that was causing her distress.

It has been reported that Zachrya had falsely claimed to be a lawyer on several TV appearances. She has no law license in any US state.

The White House has not commented on who will fill in Zachrya's role.

Trump has previously used social media to announce staff appointments and dismissals.
