Australia appoints Mike Hussey as men's team consultant coach
Hussey will also serve as T20 advisor and help with coaching during the upcoming five-match T20I series against England.
Mike Hussey has rejoined Australia's men's cricket team as a consultant coach, Cricket Australia announced on Friday.
The 51-year-old will work with the side on next year's Ashes series and the ODI World Cup in southern Africa.
Hussey will also take on a T20 advisor role ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the T20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand.
He will start almost immediately, assisting with coaching during the five-match T20I series against England, which begins later this month, and this summer's Test series against New Zealand.
Hussey said he was thrilled to take on a more formal and meaningful role with the side.
"This team has achieved so much in recent times," he said.
Head coach Andrew McDonald said Hussey had been a highly valued member of the staff in the past.
"Mike brings a considerable skill set which is complementary to the coaches and players," McDonald said.
Hussey, a left-handed batter, averaged more than 51 in 79 Tests for Australia.
He has built an extensive coaching career since retiring as a player in 2016, including work with the Australian and English national teams.
Hussey was long the batting coach at Chennai Super Kings under Stephen Fleming, and he led Welsh Fire in this year's Hundred.
He was also part of Matthew Mott's coaching panel when England won the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022.
Hussey had been touted as a possible return to England's coaching set-up after Fleming was appointed Test coach earlier this year, before Cricket Australia moved to sign him.
