Oman seal final World Cup Qualifier spot, eight teams chase four places
Oman completed the field for the qualifier, while eight teams will compete in December for the last four places at the 2027 World Cup.
Oman became the fourth team to qualify automatically for the Cricket World Cup Qualifier as the League 2 cycle ended this week, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement.
Oman finished above Namibia on the league table on Net Run Rate, despite losing on the final day of the competition.
Namibia, Nepal, UAE and Canada, the bottom four finishers in League 2, still have a route to the tournament through the Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off in December.
Six of the 14 teams needed for the 2027 World Cup have now secured their places, while the remaining eight will compete for four spots through the Play-off.
The top four League 2 finishers, USA, Scotland, the Netherlands and Oman, will join Ireland and the West Indies, the next best teams in the ODI rankings below the automatic qualifiers, in the 10-team Qualifier, which the ICC said will be held in February 2027.
The 2027 Cricket World Cup is a 14-team event, with hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe qualifying automatically.
Eight more teams earned places through the ODI rankings at the cut-off date of Sept. 30, 2026: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The Play-off will feature the four bottom League 2 teams and the four winners of the Challenge League, a tier the ICC described as effectively the third tier of 50-over cricket.
The Challenge League included 12 teams split into two groups of six, with Jersey and Kuwait advancing from Group A and Italy and Uganda advancing from Group B.
The top four teams at the Play-off will take the last four places at the Qualifier, and the Qualifier winners will in turn take the final four spots at the tournament.
