A private business jet carrying nine people crashed into a residential neighborhood near Cresthaven, Florida, on Sunday, killing everyone on board, Turkey's state-run news agency Anadolu Agency reported.

The Learjet 60 had taken off from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was headed to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The aircraft came down at around 12:50 p.m. local time, the FAA said, and officials have not yet determined what caused it to crash.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed the deaths and called the crash a "horrific tragedy" in Palm Beach County.

The crash site is a few kilometers from Mar-a-Lago, the estate of US President Donald Trump.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said on the social media platform X that it was responding to an "Aircraft Incident" and urged the public to avoid the area, which it said would be an extended incident.

The Palm Beach Sheriff's Office said it had closed all northbound and southbound lanes of Military Trail between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North until further notice to secure the area for emergency crews.

The National Transportation Safety Board, an independent US federal agency that investigates civil transportation accidents, will lead the inquiry alongside the FAA.
