New Zealand lose Chapman and Ravindra for India ODI series
Tim Seifert will be available for all five matches, while Henry Nicholls and Dean Foxcroft have been added to the squad.
New Zealand will be without Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra for the five-match ODI series against India, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Monday.
Chapman is still recovering from a hamstring injury and will need about two more weeks on the sidelines.
Ravindra is dealing with a shoulder problem, and the Black Caps decided he needs more time to recover before the two-match ICC World Test Championship series with India, which starts later this month.
Wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert will be available for all five matches, and Henry Nicholls for games one to three and Dean Foxcroft for games four and five have been added to the squad.
New Zealand coach Rob Walter said losing the pair was a big blow, but he believes the side is well placed to cope without them.
"Everyone knows what an asset Mark and Rachin are to this side," Walter said.
Walter said he had spoken to Chapman last week, adding that the batter was disappointed but working hard to return to the field.
On Ravindra, Walter said his shoulder has not recovered enough to field comfortably in white-ball cricket, so the team does not want to take any undue risks before the Test series.
Walter said he was pleased to bring in Nicholls, who is familiar with the side, and Foxcroft, who recently played in the ODIs against the West Indies.
The first ODI is scheduled for Nov. 4 in Auckland, followed by matches in Wellington on Nov. 7, Hamilton on Nov. 10, and two games in Mount Maunganui on Nov. 13 and Nov. 15.
The squad for the first three matches has 15 players, while the squad for the final two games has 13, with Santner continuing as captain throughout.
The ODI series forms part of New Zealand's home summer programme against India, with the Test matches to follow later this month.
