Mexico urges citizens to avoid nonessential travel to Saudi Arabia
The embassy cited regional tensions and higher security risks, and warned citizens against sharing images of conflict-related incidents online.
Mexico's embassy in Saudi Arabia on Monday told citizens to hold off on nonessential trips to the kingdom, including tourism and family visits, Turkey's state-run news agency Anadolu Agency reported.
The embassy pointed to continuing tensions in the Middle East and elevated security risks in the region as the reason for its advice.
In a post on X, it also asked Mexicans living in or passing through Saudi Arabia to stay alert and take extra precautions, the embassy said.
Citizens were told to watch for phone alerts about possible attacks and to seek shelter at home or in a secure place at their workplace.
The embassy also warned people against posting photos or videos of conflict-related incidents on social media.
Mexicans were urged to follow the embassy's official accounts for updates and to register their personal details with it.
The embassy also published contact details for Mexican nationals who need emergency help or consular services.
The embassy did not say how many Mexican citizens are currently living in or visiting Saudi Arabia.
The latest notice repeats earlier advisories that urged travelers to avoid unnecessary trips and follow local safety instructions, the embassy said.
Previous warnings also advised travelers to check flight conditions directly with airlines and airports before departing.
Saudi Arabia hosts millions of Muslim pilgrims each year for the Hajj and Umrah, so travel advisories for the kingdom often draw wide attention.
