Saudi-led coalition says it struck Houthi military assets

Residents and an official in Aden said a Houthi missile hit near a government military site, causing a loud blast with no casualties reported.

A Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said on Sunday it had carried out an operation against Houthi assets, China's state news agency Xinhua reported.

Coalition spokesperson Turki Al-Malki said in a social media post on X that the action was a response to ongoing Houthi attacks on civilians and civilian sites in Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

Al-Malki said the targeted resources were used by the Houthis to sustain their war effort, particularly their ballistic missile and drone capabilities.

He gave no location for the operation and did not say what results it had produced.

Separately on Sunday, residents and a security official in Aden, Yemen's southern port city, described a powerful explosion after a Houthi missile landed nearby.

The official told Xinhua, on condition of anonymity, that the missile hit close to a military facility used by Yemeni government forces backed by Saudi Arabia in the Al-Buraiqa district of western Aden.

The official said no casualties had been reported.

Residents said the blast was loud enough to be heard across several neighborhoods.

The Houthi group had not immediately commented on the strike.

Aden is the temporary seat of Yemen's internationally recognized government, and it has faced growing missile and drone attacks by the Houthis during the latest escalation.

Yemen has been in conflict since late 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and much of northern Yemen.

A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 to support the Yemeni government.
