Oman face UAE in decider for last World Cup Qualifier spot

Oman need a win or must avoid a heavy defeat to secure fourth place, with Namibia the only side able to overtake them on net run rate.

Oman play the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday in the final match that will decide the last automatic place in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement.

Oman sit fourth in League 2 on 33 points and must either win or avoid a heavy defeat to confirm their spot, with only Namibia able to overtake them through the net run rate tiebreaker.

Oman would face net run rate trouble if they lose by more than 130 runs, or if the UAE chase a target set by Oman in around 23 overs or quicker.

Oman's net run rate stands at -0.202, still above Namibia's -0.278 after 36 matches.

Oman have lost three of their last four matches in their home tri-series with Nepal and Canada, and have also lost all three of their matches against the UAE and Netherlands in the current cycle.

The USA, Scotland and Netherlands have already booked places in the Qualifier as guaranteed top-four finishers, with the USA claiming top spot on 49 points.

The fourth-place finisher will join those three as a direct entrant to the Qualifier, while the bottom four, which currently includes Nepal, the UAE and Canada, will go to the Qualifier Play-off.

The Play-off links the bottom four of League 2 with the top two teams in each Challenge League group, and the top four from that competition complete the Qualifier line-up.

In the Challenge League, Jersey and Kuwait topped Group A, while Italy and Uganda finished top of Group B.
