Pakistan Government Prioritizes Food Security and Affordable Essentials
The Pakistani government has made food security and availability of essentials at reasonable prices its top priority, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said.

The Pakistani government has made food security and availability of essentials at reasonable prices its top priority, the state broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported Saturday.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar chaired a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee in Islamabad to review the stock position, pricing, and supply of essential commodities.
The committee assessed the national reserves, procurement frameworks, and local consumption and price trends. It found that domestic stocks of daily essentials are adequate, ensuring stability in the local supply.
The meeting was informed that the current sugar price in the domestic market is below the targeted retail price of Rs155 per kilogram, with sufficient stock available until the next crushing season.
The committee also discussed the wheat stock, which, including imported wheat, is sufficient until the next harvest. However, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar expressed concern over the rising trend of wheat prices.
He directed federal and provincial governments to take necessary measures, including increasing the supply of wheat, to stabilize prices. Dar also instructed authorities to monitor market networks closely and show zero tolerance towards hoarding or market speculation.
Pakistan has long struggled with food security and price stability. The country has faced significant challenges in maintaining a stable supply of essential commodities, particularly wheat and sugar. The government's efforts to address these issues are crucial in ensuring the well-being of its citizens.
