Samsung Lions Captain Koo Ja-wook Makes Miraculous Recovery for KBO Postseason

Samsung Lions captain Koo Ja-wook has made a miraculous recovery from a hamstring injury he sustained on September 30, allowing him to serve as the designated hitter in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason, Yonhap News Agency reported on Monday.

Koo Ja-wook expressed gratitude to his team trainers for their help in his recovery, saying, "Our trainers worked a miracle."

He also credited his own efforts, stating, "I also tried to do my part and eat whatever I thought would help my muscle heal quickly."

Koo, who won his first career batting title this year with a .371 mark, is a crucial part of the Lions' lineup.

He had strong performances against the Kia Tigers in the regular season, batting .340 with five doubles in 15 games.

In the postseason, Koo emphasized that individual achievements are secondary to team success, saying, "These postseason games are all about who wins in the end, not which individual players have good games."

He added, "I will put aside my personal ambitions and do whatever it takes to win games."

Koo will start as the designated hitter, as manager Park Jin-man is cautious about risking further injury with reckless baserunning.

Koo acknowledged that his speed has decreased with age, saying, "Baserunning is not just about speed. You have to make quick decisions on the fly, too."

The series against the Kia Tigers is a rematch of the 2024 Korean Series, where the Tigers won the championship in five games.

Koo stated that he is not motivated by a desire for revenge, instead focusing on executing the team's plans and playing their game.
