Settlers attack homes in Bedouin community near Jerusalem

Residents forced the settlers to withdraw after they pelted homes with stones, the Jerusalem Governorate said.

Settlers attacked residents' homes in a Bedouin community near Khan al-Ahmar on Sunday evening, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

The settlers pelted residents with stones in the al-Tibna area, southeast of Jerusalem, before local inhabitants confronted them and forced them to withdraw.

The Jerusalem Governorate said the attack came from one of the settlement outposts established in the area and targeted homes within the community.

The governorate added that residents confronted the settlers and compelled them to leave the site.

The report did not mention any injuries or arrests.

The Bedouin community in the vicinity of Khan al-Ahmar is frequently attacked by settlers, including raids on residential clusters and harassment of residents.

The report describes these attacks as part of ongoing pressure to displace Bedouin communities from the area.

The report also notes that Khan al-Ahmar lies east of Jerusalem, along the road linking Jerusalem and Jericho, and is a primary target for settlement expansion.

Khan al-Ahmar is a small Bedouin community that has faced repeated Israeli demolition orders over many years, and its fate has drawn criticism from foreign governments and rights groups.

Israeli authorities have also approved settlement plans in the wider area, which critics say could cut the West Bank in two and complicate any future Palestinian state.
