Tencent launches Hy4 AI model with cyberattack safeguards
The model was trained on defensive cybersecurity data and is already available through several of the company's cloud and workplace applications.

Chinese tech giant Tencent launched a new artificial intelligence model, Hy4, on Wednesday with safeguards meant to reduce its misuse in cyberattacks and harmful biological research, Turkey's state-run news agency Anadolu Agency reported.
The Shenzhen-based company, best known for the WeChat messaging app, said the model was trained on cybersecurity data focused on defensive tasks, such as finding and fixing software vulnerabilities, while leaving out material on offensive exploitation.
Tencent said security assessments by its internal research teams found no significant concerns about the model helping with cyberattacks in the areas tested.
The company said Hy4 showed strong knowledge of biology but had more limited ability to design open-ended experiments than some of the most advanced AI models.
Beyond its safety features, the model can analyze images, interpret complex charts, write computer code and perform tasks using software interfaces, Tencent said.
Hy4 is already available through several of Tencent's cloud and workplace applications, and the company plans to release its underlying model weights and technical documentation in the coming days.
Hy4 is the latest addition to Tencent's growing AI portfolio and follows a preview version released in August.
The company said the new model improves performance in financial analysis, scientific research and software development.
