Yemeni government forces claimed on Wednesday to have killed or disabled about 340 Houthi fighters and commanders in 1,322 operations, the military said in a statement on the social media platform X, Yemeni military said in a statement.

The spokesperson added that the same operations destroyed or damaged 114 military vehicles and items of equipment.

The military said government troops had taken ground in Al-Jawf province, seizing Houthi posts at Umm Lafifa, Qurun al-Sabir and Duhaydat al-Aqir.

In Taiz province in the southwest, government forces and allied popular resistance fighters made gains on several fronts and pushed back Houthi attempts to recover lost positions, the military said.

The army said its units were taking steps to protect civilians and civilian facilities while the fighting continues.

The operations form part of the "Dawn of Yemen" campaign, which government forces began on Oct. 5 to restore state institutions and retake the capital, Sanaa, from the Houthis.

Fighting between government forces and the Houthis resumed in July, and UN reports say it has killed and wounded thousands and displaced more than 250,000 people.

The renewed clashes ended a period of relative calm that had held since April 2022, deepening Yemen's already severe humanitarian crisis.

Yemen has been in civil war since the Houthis seized Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014, and a Saudi-led coalition intervened in March 2015 to support the internationally recognized government.
