Donald Trump accused Democrats on Saturday of menacing Republican officials and donors with impeachment and jail after their midterm election victory, Turkey's state-run news agency Anadolu Agency reported.

In a long post on Truth Social, his social media platform, Trump claimed Democratic leaders had sent threatening letters to several people, including Attorney General Todd Blanche and Republican donors, warning them of impeachment and other penalties.

Trump said Democrats were going after donors, whom he described as some of the most respected people in the world, simply because of their party ties.

He called the conduct "extortion at the highest level" and framed the alleged campaign as "weaponization and lawfare," arguing that Democrats were targeting people for their politics rather than any wrongdoing.

Trump singled out Democratic Sen. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, claiming she intended to target young people who support Republican values.

He urged Republicans to "get smart, fast" and said the people behind the letters should face imprisonment.

The president called on the Department of Justice to investigate what he described as criminal conduct, saying he was ordering the department to look into the matter immediately.

Trump did not provide details of the letters or name the people he said had received them.

The accusations come amid heightened political tensions after the midterm elections, which will shape control of Congress and the balance of power in Washington for the next phase of Trump's presidency.

Trump has repeatedly clashed with Democrats over legal and justice issues since returning to the White House in January 2025.
