Vance seeks to win back disaffected Trump voters before 2028

Vance has listed four steps to regain voters, including ending the Iran war and changing ties with Israel, after Republicans lost ground in the Nov. 3 midterms.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance sought on Wednesday to build a new alliance with disaffected supporters of President Donald Trump ahead of 2028, Turkey's state-run news agency Anadolu Agency reported.

Sources familiar with the matter said Vance has begun refining his political message since Republicans lost ground in the Nov. 3 midterm elections, including by diverging from Trump on foreign policy and relations with Israel.

A White House meeting on Wednesday morning was held to align administration officials on messaging after the midterms, the sources said.

Afterward, Vance posted on X a list of four steps, drawn from a pollster's advice, for winning back voters: ending the war in Iran, focusing on the cost of living and inflation, putting America first, and changing the relationship with Israel.

"The reason we lost is the war," Vance said on X, adding that Trump had made the same point the night before.

A White House official said the four goals form Vance's rallying message to what the official called the "new right," a coalition that draws on Trump's original America First movement and believes he is too closely aligned with Israel on foreign policy.

The official said the message does not break with Trump but is aimed at Republicans who support the president yet disagree with or feel let down by his foreign policy.

"Vance is our guy," the official said.

Vance, who served as Trump's running mate in the 2024 election, has become a figure watched closely as the Republican Party looks toward the 2028 presidential race, which is still more than two years away.
