Brisbane Heat beat defending champions Hobart Hurricanes by four wickets on Saturday, with 10 balls remaining, Cricket Australia said in a statement.

The Hurricanes were restricted to 9-116 at Allan Border Field, and their title defence has yet to produce a win in four matches this season.

Hobart's batting faltered after a promising start, with Heather Graham (21), Rachel Trenaman (25) and Maddy Green (24) all failing to convert their starts.

Brisbane's chase was built on an early spell from Lily Bassingthwaighte, the 19-year-old who dismissed Sri Lankan star Chamari Athapaththu first ball and finished with 3-16 from four overs.

It was the first time Bassingthwaighte has taken three wickets in a WBBL match, and she has been a regular in the Heat side this season.

The Heat later slipped to 6-89 after a late Hurricanes fightback led by stand-in skipper Graham and Lauren Smith, who was playing her 150th game.

Annie O'Neil steered Brisbane home with an unbeaten 32 from 28 balls, the official release said.

The win was Brisbane's second of the season, following their victory over the Strikers on Thursday.

WBBL is the women's Twenty20 competition run alongside the men's Big Bash League, and the Hurricanes will need to lift their form to challenge for a place in the top four.
