Towhid Hridoy struck an unbeaten 242 on Saturday to lift Bangladesh to 386 against West Indies in the second World Test Championship Test in Sylhet, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement.

Bangladesh were 184 for seven when Taijul Islam came in before the lunch break, and the pair added 117 runs for the eighth wicket.

Taijul was stumped by Amir Jangoo off Jomel Warrican for 22, leaving the hosts on 301 for eight.

Earlier in the day, Warrican had removed Mushfiqur Rahim for 34 and Litton Das for 8 in consecutive overs, both caught at cover.

Hridoy was on 100 at lunch and then scored at a rapid rate, hitting 22 fours and 11 sixes in his innings.

He converted his maiden Test hundred into a double-century, the ICC said.

When he reached 172, Hridoy set the highest individual Test score at Sylhet, passing Mahmudul Hasan Joy's 171 against Ireland last year.

Bangladesh started the third day on 88 for three, trailing by 268 runs, with Mushfiqur and Hridoy at the crease.

The innings ended at 386 after Taskin Ahmed was dismissed for 12 by Jayden Seales, giving Bangladesh a 30-run lead over West Indies' total of 356.

Bangladesh had already been weakened when opener Shadman Islam was injured on the second day of the match.

The visitors began their second innings in Sylhet, but bad light cut the day short with West Indies ending on 7 without loss, trailing by 23 runs.

The match is part of the ICC World Test Championship, and Hridoy's innings came with the series on the line for Bangladesh.
