Amir Jangoo hits century as West Indies recover in Sylhet Test
Debutant Kevin Wickham made 61 as West Indies reached 235 for four in reply to Bangladesh, with Jangoo unbeaten on 111.
Amir Jangoo scored an unbeaten 111 as West Indies recovered from a poor start on Thursday in the second Test in Sylhet, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement.
West Indies lost John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul to fever before the first ball was bowled, forcing them to bring in Joshua Da Silva and debutant Kevin Wickham.
Wickham, who was told by coach Daren Sammy to stay ready, said he learned of his debut only that morning.
"This morning when I came to the ground, I was sitting in the dressing room," Wickham said in the post-match press conference.
Bangladesh's pace pair of Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud removed King, Da Silva and Kavem Hodge early, leaving the tourists struggling at the top of the order.
Wickham and Jangoo then put on 131 runs for the fourth wicket, steadying the innings.
Wickham made 61 before Hasan dismissed him.
Jangoo, playing in his seventh Test, reached his second Test century and was still at the crease with Justin Greaves on 35 not out.
Greaves also remained unbeaten.
West Indies were 235 for four at the time of the report, and the ICC said the tourists would aim for a total above 300 with Roston Chase and the lower order still to bat.
The visitors have pace options in Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph, along with a spin group led by Jomel Warrican, which the ICC said had already shown it could be a handful in Bangladeshi conditions.
The match is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025/27 cycle, the global league structure that ranks Test teams through bilateral series.
