South Africa recall Nortje, Bavuma to lead against Bangladesh
Anrich Nortje returns from injury, while Tony de Zorzi and Zubayr Hamza also return for the first Test in Johannesburg from Nov. 15.
South Africa named their squad on Monday for the Test series against Bangladesh, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement.
Pace bowler Anrich Nortje returns after missing the last two Tests of the World Test Championship series win over Australia with a groin injury.
Batters Tony de Zorzi and Zubayr Hamza also return to the squad, with De Zorzi having missed the Australia series because of a hamstring injury.
Temba Bavuma will captain the 15-player squad.
Nortje joins Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, Dane Paterson, Wiaan Mulder and Corbin Bosch in the pace bowling group.
Pacer Lungi Ngidi was not considered for selection because he is still continuing his rehabilitation.
"We know the threat Bangladesh pose," head coach Shukri Conrad said.
Conrad said the Highveld traditionally offers pace and bounce, although the Wanderers have recently offered some help to spin, so the selectors will focus on seam-bowling options.
He said the team expects Bangladesh's quick bowlers to be effective in Highveld conditions and welcomed Bavuma's return from injury.
South Africa are second in the World Test Championship standings with a point percentage of 71.43, while Bangladesh are fifth on 47.62 percent, the ICC said.
The ICC also said South Africa have replaced Australia at No.1 in the men's Test team rankings.
The first Test runs from Nov. 15 to 19 in Johannesburg, and Conrad said the build-up will allow the team to assess its options before choosing the best combination for the conditions.
