India to host inaugural Women's Champions Trophy in February
Six teams will play a single round-robin T20 league, with the top two meeting in the final on Feb. 28 at two venues.
The inaugural ICC Women's Champions Trophy will be held in India from Feb. 14 to 28, 2027, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement.
Six teams will compete in the tournament: Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
The sides qualified based on their positions in the ICC Women's T20I Team Rankings as of the July 6, 2026 cut-off date, with India qualifying as the host nation.
The event is a T20 International competition, and all six teams will play in a single round-robin league, with each side facing the other five once.
That format produces 15 league-stage matches, and the top two teams in the standings will progress to the final on Feb. 28, 2027.
A total of 16 matches will be played, and the winner of the final will be crowned the first champions of the tournament.
The matches will be staged at two venues, the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium in Vadodara.
ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta also looked ahead to the inaugural edition as a new chapter in women's cricket takes shape.
The Women's Champions Trophy joins the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup and the ICC Women's T20 World Cup on the governing body's women's calendar.
Australia lifted the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 trophy, the most recent edition of that event highlighted in the ICC's coverage.
The new tournament gives the six participating teams the chance to become the first Women's Champions Trophy winners.
