Israel to deport 12 international activists detained near Ramallah

Israeli forces also detained two foreign journalists and three Palestinians, including a woman, during the olive-harvest incident in Kafr Ni'ma.

Israeli authorities have decided to deport 12 international activists who were detained on Friday in the West Bank village of Kafr Ni'ma, west of Ramallah, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

Israeli forces detained 17 people in the village on Friday, including the 12 international activists, two foreign journalists and three Palestinians, one of them a woman.

The detentions followed an assault on the group by a group of settlers, who held them while they were taking part in olive harvesting.

The activists are five Germans, four Italians, two Canadians and one American.

The Faza'a campaign said a lawyer following the detainees' case had informed it that the activists would be deported on Saturday morning.

The Faza'a campaign condemned the repeated detention and deportation of its activists by Israeli authorities.

The campaign described these measures as an attempt to silence witnesses to settler attacks and prevent the documentation of violations against Palestinians.

It also said the measures obstruct international efforts to protect farmers and help them reach their land.

Olive harvesting in the occupied West Bank takes place each autumn, and Palestinian farmers have long reported difficulties reaching their groves near settlements.

Rights groups and international observers have documented settler attacks on Palestinian farmers during the harvest season in recent years, and international volunteers have often joined the harvest to accompany them.
