Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to working closely with the G-24 Secretariat and member countries on shared Global South priorities, the state broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported.

Aurangzeb received a virtual briefing from G-24 Secretariat Director Dr. Iyabo Masha on the responsibilities and forward work programme linked to Pakistan's assumption of the group's chairmanship.

He praised the secretariat's role in supporting the group's work and advancing the collective interests of emerging markets and developing economies.

Aurangzeb also said Pakistan would pursue a substantive, inclusive and results-oriented chairmanship, backed by sustained engagement with member countries, consensus-building and a focused set of actionable policy priorities.

The briefing covered preparations for the G-24 Technical Group Meeting, which is expected to be hosted by Pakistan in February 2027.

The Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four was set up in 1971 to coordinate the positions of developing countries on international monetary and financial issues.

Its members use the forum to push for a greater voice in global economic institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Pakistan's chairmanship comes as developing economies continue to seek a larger role in global financial decision-making, a theme that the group has pursued for more than five decades.
