Israeli Forces Threaten to Expand Hebron Military Offensive
Israeli forces threaten to expand their military offensive in Hebron, which has been under siege for ten days, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
Israeli forces have threatened to expand their military offensive in Hebron, a city in the occupied West Bank, where a ten-day siege has forced additional families to leave their homes, the Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) reported on Sunday.
The offensive has displaced over 3,300 Palestinians, particularly in the al-Jalda and Ain Deir Bahha areas, and resulted in the demolition of 15 homes and other structures, according to the Hebron Municipality.
Movement restrictions have been imposed on residents in areas near al-Jalda and Deir Bahha neighborhoods, raising fears that residents could be forced to leave their homes.
The municipality reported that 327 businesses have been closed, and direct daily economic losses have exceeded 12 million shekels (approximately $3.8 million), with total infrastructure losses estimated at over $1.9 million.
The ongoing offensive has also disrupted education, preventing approximately 80,000 students from attending school for the tenth consecutive day.
Impact on Local Residents
Displaced families fear that Israeli forces may extend their presence in Palestinian neighborhoods beyond the upcoming Shabbat Chayei Sarah, scheduled for next Saturday.
Economic Consequences
Losses in the health and environmental sectors have reached around $160,000, and Israeli forces have reinforced their deployment in areas they had declared closed.
Background
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has a long and complex history, with tensions and violence escalating in recent years, particularly in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The occupation has resulted in significant economic, social, and humanitarian challenges for the Palestinian population, with many residents facing restrictions on movement and access to basic services.
