Pakistan and Sudan agreed on Saturday to expand cooperation in security, cybercrime, police training and other sectors, the state broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported.

The understanding was reached at a meeting in Islamabad between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Sudanese Interior Minister Lieutenant General Babiker Samra Mustafa Ali.

The two countries also decided to sign a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation on cybercrime.

Naqvi said Islamabad stands ready to help Sudan restore peace and begin its reconstruction.

Naqvi said that, with support from NADRA, Sudan has issued 36 million citizenship cards, nine million national identity cards, 18 million birth certificates and 500,000 death certificates.

He said NADRA is ready to keep helping Sudan with its civil registration process.

Naqvi also said Pakistan is ready to provide professional training to Sudanese police officers.

The Sudanese minister said Pakistan is a brotherly country and that his country places great importance on cooperation with Pakistan in all fields.

NADRA, Pakistan's national database and registration authority, maintains citizens' identity records and issues national identity cards and related documents.

Sudan has been torn by fighting between its army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces since April 2023, a conflict that has displaced millions of people.
